How To Tackle New Job Nerves

First day nerves whenever you start a new job are completely understandable  it’s a new environment, new people, unfamiliar routines. It’s a lot of change to take in in one go.But these jitters can sometimes have a negative effect on the way you approach your first day, which can mean you won’t come across in the way you wanted or do the things you want to do on your first day.

With this in mind, here are a few things you can do to get rid of those new jobs nervousness.

1)Remember Why You Were Hired :Out of all of the applications for this job, the company chose you to be a part of their team and take their business forward. It’s really important to remember this when you’re feeling those nerves taking over and threatening to ruin your first day.  Your new boss has faith in you – otherwise they wouldn’t have hired you – so make sure you remind yourself of this whenever you’re filled with doubt and dread as you approach your new place of work.

2Have A Plan:Have A Plan A lot of the time, the reason that you’re so nervous about starting a new job is because you feel like everything is unfamiliar and you don’t know where to start. To combat this, it’s a good idea to have a strategy in mind before you start your new job, so that you’re not going in completely blind. Think about some of the goals you.Want to achieve within your first one, three or even six months in the business and how you’ll try to achieve them. This will give you something to focus on and make you feel like you’re in control of the situation and can tackle it head on.

3)Think Back To Past Successes:Chances are this won’t be the first time you’ve started something new – your first day at Uni or college, your first day at a different job or even a first date! You will have felt exactly the same in all of those situations, but you overcame them and soon settled in – so it’s important to remind yourself of this  When you’re feeling anxious. This won’t be the last time you’re doing something for the first time either, but instead of it filling you with dread, you should be excited about the challenges ahead and determined to make your mark and succeed.

4)Remember, You’re Not Alone :When you’re being introduced to all of your new colleagues in the office, keep in mind that – at one point or another – it was them that was the fresh meat, feeling nervous and a bit lost while taking on the challenge of a new jobEveryone has to be the newbie at some point, but it only takes a few weeks before you soon. Become part of the furniture – and who knows, you might even make some wonderful friends and build some great relationships to boot!
