10-Ways-To-Stay-Focused-In-An-Interview

After stepping into the interview office, stress or lack of confidence may start to show. It is quite normal it happens with everyone. So here are some top 10 ways which might help you to stay focused in an interview.

1. Be Calm

Staying focused during those 15-30 minutes – be it a phone interview or a face-to-face one – is important. So drink water and relax.

2. Arrive Early

Being early helps you to gather all your concentration for the interview. If you are late or just in time, you might feel distracted.

3. It’s a dialogue

Remember you are not there to just answer questions. Interviews are also a chance for you to get to know the staff and possible future bosses. Show off your conversation skills!.

4. Have Questions

Come prepared with at least two questions for your interviewer. That helps you come across as a person who has researched as well as focused on the job.

5. The Long Pause

If, after you have answered a question, the interviewer goes silent, don’t panic. You did not do anything wrong. A long pause is to be lived out with just patience.

6. Stumbled ? Get Up

If in nervousness you stumble over your words, don’t believe you have spoiled your impression. It is normal to stumble. Just restart your sentence and go with the flow.

7. Misspoke ? Correct Yourself

If you said something you shouldn’t have or answered something wrong and realized a bit late, then own up to the mistake and correct yourself.

8. Don’t Know ? Don’t Lie  !

If you really don’t know that term the interviewer said or a concept you don’t understand, then it is better to say you are unfamiliar with it than make up something. They will know.

9. Breathe

Don’t hold your breath before each question or after each answer. Breathe normally. It will help you keep a clear head and focus.

10. Plan

The best way to prepare yourself for the stress before, during and after your interview is to plan out as far as possible. Have some general ideas in mind before you enter. That will help you stay focused.
